Thangka Preservation Seminar in San Francisco

Treasure Caretaker Training was invited to teach a thangka preservation workshop, at University of San Francisco. Participants included USF students, faculty and staff, thangka painters, art conservators and artists. Each participant brought their own experience and questions to our combination of illustrated lectures, and hands on activities. Participants were enthusiastic about joining in our next Preservation of Monastery Treasures workshops in 2019 planned for India, Bhutan, Nepal and China.

On-site visits to Kagyu Droden Kunchab Buddhist Temple, and Berkeley Art Museum were important for on-site discussions of thangkas located in temples and museums. Thank you to Prof. John K Nelson, Lama Lodu of KDK, Joyce Hulbert, and Curator Julia White of BAM.
