March 20, 2023: Updates from Kathmandu

by Ann Shaftel

Today in Kathmandu, we had a long meeting with Lama Pasang, Leader of the  remote Tsum Community, about our conservation work plans for April 11 onwards after we arrive by helicopter. His brilliant son translated. We discussed everyone’s wishes and priorities and came up with work plans that include his community in every aspect of the five year plan. Then we posed for a portrait together with presents.

Next was visit to Tekchokling Nunnery to look at the condition of a few thangkas that I have been documenting for a number of years, to check in with nuns who attended our previous Preservation of Monastery Treasures workshops, and to hear Buddhist teachings.

Day ended with delicious Nepali thali, and scheduling monastery visits by invitation for the rest of the month.

Weather is beautiful here, however, air pollution levels are very high.
